At the same time the former RAF airfield at Pembrey, which had been used as a chicken farm, was acquired by Llanelli Borough Council. In 1981 the Welsh Race Drivers’ Association (WRDA) was formed with the expressed intention of developing a new race circuit in Wales. Port Talbot Motor Cycle Racing Club were the first organisation to put on racing events at this circuit. The stimulus for the creation of a racing circuit at Pembrey was the closure of the motor racing facility at Llandow near Cardiff. Mighty Minis Racing will be there on May 2nd and Oct 1st The shows have proven to be a big success, offering the motoring community a place to display their vehicles and use them on a racetrack in a safe and controlled environment, with each year building on the last and gaining larger and larger crowds. These shows follow a general motorsport theme and exhibit show stands, market stalls, stunt demonstrations, classic displays and on certain days the circuit is able to hold track sessions. Over the next few years, the circuit attracted star names such as Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Roy Salvadori and John Surtees. The circuit’s first motorcycle event was in 1952, organised by the Wessex Centre.Īs well as holding trackdays for both cars and motorcycles, Castle Combe Circuit holds a large number of car shows. The Castle Combe airfield opened in May 1941 on land of the Castle Combe estate, owned by the Gorst family, operating as RAF Castle Combe for seven years before being decommissioned in 1948. It was a fighter-base for Polish airmen. Castle Combe Circuit opened in 1950, and the first meeting was staged on 8 July by the Bristol Motorcycle & Light Car Club. Motorsport is becoming increasingly expensive…. With cars now available for both championships from as little as £6k and the simplest set of regulations enabling very affordable racing, Now is the time to get that Mini of yours race prepped and have some fun or just get in touch so that we can add you to our list of potential purchasers. We are very pleased to announce our 2022 championship dates. I couldn’t live the dream without the help of our sponsors and support – Thank you.Mighty Minis 2022 championship dates are here Amazing all round – people, circuit and location – fingers crossed the Mini 7 Racing Club will be returning to Zandvoort in 2016. Hunter preparation and Mini Spares quality parts brought a perfectly reliable weekend. All of which playing a significant part in great lap times at Zandvoort the perfect way to end a memorable 50th season of Mini7 Racing. The Selby & Hunter setup allows the se7en to navigate around the most daunting of corners at light speed.

The Selby engine and their newly designed straight-cut gearbox is a delight. The mini se7en is true racing icon, yet as with all series, development continues. The results could not have been better, especially considering the worn tyres and awful grid starts for both races. Although I topped that with a 2nd place in Race 2 with another tremendous close battle. We had 2 races on Sunday and got myself right in the thick of a great battle with 4 other se7ens apparently the spectator’s highlight of the weekend! My dreams certainly came alive with a 3rd place in Race 1. To wind down, the organisers put on a fantastic BBQ with a British themed pub, a great way of sharing the festivities with the Dutch contingent of the miniracers Facebook group and mini 7 club. No issues at all and some decent times - 3rd fastest in practice and qualified 4th. Now I know why Tarzan is such a famous corner - extremely high banked at the end of a high speed straight. Fast, sweeping bends and plenty of camber to challenge.

The excitement and anticipation was soon behind me once let out for our free practice session on Saturday morning.

The 1985 F1 race was won by Niki Lauda but the all-too-common noise pollution rulings, affecting many race circuits, halted any return for the pinnacle of single seater racing. The circuit at Zandvoort, once frequented by Formula One goers, was nostalgic. Did I mention a stunning beach neighbouring the race circuit too? It was fair to say this was far too great an opportunity for the Mini Spares sponsored mini se7en team of BigMacRacing to turn down!Ī 6 hour drive from Dunkirk took us through France, Belgium and finally to the Netherlands, mimicking a typical IMM road trip. Glorious sunshine forecast for the first weekend in October, free race entry, a road trip and an iconic race circuit.

Not for those of us in the Mini 7 Racing Club that opted to enter the British Race Festival at Circuit Park Zandvoort.

The month of October, miserable for some normally cold, wet and windy.
